Reunion Marketplace: clean energy tax credits, traded with confidence.

Reunion is the leading platform for clean energy tax credits, connecting Fortune 1000 buyers with the developers behind solar, wind, storage and advanced manufacturing projects. We designed the marketplace where those deals begin. When Reunion moved its web app from Bubble to a custom build on ShadCN UI, we extended the design system with custom components made for the marketplace. We also helped create Reunion’s marketing website.

The challenge

From a Bubble MVP to an enterprise marketplace.

Reunion’s first web app was built on Bubble, which got the marketplace in front of buyers and sellers quickly. As deals grew into the hundreds of millions and buyers came from the Fortune 1000, the team decided to rebuild it as a custom product on ShadCN UI.

The marketplace had to carry a lot of information without feeling heavy: credit types from §48 ITCs to §45X AMPCs, technologies, delivery dates, risk, pricing and compliance, across many projects at once. And the two sides of the market needed different things from the same product.

The new build had to:

01

Match buyers to projects

Show each buyer the projects that fit what they’re looking for, first.

02

Give sellers a clear view

Keep every submitted project and its status in one place.

03

Make projects decision-ready

Answer a tax team’s questions about terms, risk and price at a glance.

04

Scale with the team

Give developers components they can reuse, on top of ShadCN.

Onboarding

Two sides of the market, one sign-up.

Buyers and sellers answer a few targeted questions when they sign up, so the marketplace knows what they’re looking for before they see a single project. Then they land straight on a dashboard built for their side of the deal: the same frame, with a different job.

  1. Step 1Sign up as a buyer or a seller
  2. Step 2Answer targeted questions
  3. Step 3Land on a personalised dashboard
  4. Step 4Explore projects and express interest

Shared by both: recently viewed projects, recent project updates and market news, in the same layout, so moving between the two sides never feels like a different product.

The product

Every project, decision-ready.

Projects page with a filter sidebar, selected filter chips, the count 16 projects, $156M in credits, and a grid of project cards. Project page for Teton: credit year 2024, PTC (§45), $20 million, Solar (Utility), with project overview and risk and complexity scales. Project header for Teton with New and Accepting bids badges, 83% match, views, bookmarks and shares, and Express interest and Schedule a call buttons. Project page with an Admin-only fields panel listing sponsor name, state, last updated dates and internal notes. Saved Projects shown as a table with credit type, technology, COD, region, amount, RECs, step up, credit adders and status. Saved searches with Get alerts toggles and confirmation toasts for turning alerts on and off, editing and deleting a search. Edit saved search dialog with a name field, a view-as-table toggle and location checkboxes.

Design system

ShadCN at the core, built out for the marketplace.

Reunion’s custom build runs on ShadCN UI. We kept its foundations, from type and spacing to form controls, dialogs and toasts, and contributed custom components for everything a tax credit marketplace needs that a general-purpose library doesn’t have. There are more; here are a few.

Two project cards; on the second, a +2 tag shows a tooltip reading Coming soon, Under exclusivity.
Project cardStatus, match, technology, credit type and delivery date, then the numbers. When status badges overflow the first line, a “+2” tag shows the rest in a tooltip.
Project complexity and project risk shown as three-step scales, impact badges, and an estimated price range from $0.85 to $0.95.
Project attribute boxComplexity, risk, impact and price shown visually against the marketplace average, each with a plain-language explanation.
Filter sidebar parts: location checkboxes with Select all and Clear all, a credit amount range with min and max inputs, and range sliders for price, RECs and step up.
Filter sidebarCheckbox groups with Select all and Clear all, range sliders with typed min and max, and Save search. Any filter can be added.
A card containing four project cards in a row with Previous and Next buttons.
Card with project displayA container that pages through project cards, for recommendations and related projects.
Vertical sidebar navigation: a generic version with sections, and a filled version with Dashboard, Contractors, Employees, Contracts, Payroll reports and more.
SidebarVertical navigation with sections, icons and a clear selected state, shared with Reunion’s PWA compliance product.
A card with a bordered scroll area listing version tags.
Card with scroll areaLong lists stay inside a fixed layout, so the page around them doesn’t jump.
Payroll data table with daily hours, straight time and overtime rates, grouped deduction columns, and red flags on an underpaid fringe rate and a 1:2 apprentice ratio.
Payroll data tableAn augmented ShadCN table for payroll reports: grouped deductions, straight time and overtime side by side, and inline flags for issues like an underpaid fringe rate or a missed apprentice ratio.

One brand colour, used with intent

Reunion’s deep green marks primary actions and selected states. Red is kept for a few things that need attention: sold projects, bookmarks and errors.

Status you can read

Every badge pairs an icon with a word: Sold, New, Accepting bids, Under exclusivity. Nothing relies on colour alone.

Tags that scan in seconds

Match, technology, credit type and delivery date each have their own icon, so buyers can compare cards without reading every line.

Built once, reused everywhere

The same project card appears on dashboards, search, saved projects and related projects; the sidebar and tables carry over to the PWA product.

Marketing website

A public face for an enterprise audience.

We also helped Reunion create its marketing website, reunioninfra.com: the first stop for Fortune 1000 tax teams and clean energy developers, long before they sign in. It explains how tax credit transfers work and presents Reunion’s track record and its compliance offering, in a design language that matches the product.

From the client

Working with the team has been fantastic! They bring a keen design eye and empathy for the user into every design they create. We have really appreciated their attention to detail that we otherwise would have missed during the design process and value their perspective on design/layout best practices when crafting both product and website pages. We will continue working with them for our design tasks and I would recommend them to any organization needing quality design work.
